Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour Raises $21 Million For Climate Change By Auctioning Off 126 Guitars

Renowned Pink Floyd guitarist and songwriter David Gilmour is serious about climate change. He’s so determined on raising awareness about the phenomenon, in fact, that he sold off 126 of his guitars in June and gave the profits to charity.

According to Guitar World, Gilmour’s guitars auctioned for a massive total of $21 million. Maybe the most noteworthy guitar to be auctioned off was the iconic black Stratocaster that the songwriter used to record “Comfortably Numb,” “Shine on You Crazy Diamond,” and “Money.” That axe was bought by the owner of the Indianapolis Colts for $4 million. The English rock star said every penny would be given to the environmental nonprofit ClientEarth.

“The global climate crisis is the greatest challenge that humanity will ever face, and we are within a few years of the effects of global warming being irreversible,” tweeted Gilmour. “We need a civilized world that goes on for all our grandchildren and beyond in which these guitars can be played and songs can be sung.”
